Plot summary

In this story there was these men who was wounded in a hospital of Padua, Italy. He fall in love with a Italian nurse name Luz. She took the nigh duty for three month were she took care of him and even when he was going to get operate she prepare him for the operation. When he was on crutches he help her taking the nighttime temperature so she could sleep. Both wanted to get married before he whet back to war but they didn’t had their birth certificate. They decide that after the war he should go back to New York to get a job. He was not so happy that she didn’t go to America with him but she wanted to wait until he get a good job. In the meanwhile she stay to open a hospital were she had an affair with the major of the Italian battalion. After that she realize that their love was a boy-girl love. She didn’t get married with the major and the American never wrote her back. At the end he contracted gonorrhea from a department store employee while riding in a taxicab.
